Get The Look: The 1959 Barbie Look

Channel Mattel's first ever Barbie from 1959 with a classic red lip and kitten flick of eyeliner. Embodying the glamour of Hollywood, this look will have you feeling truly iconic.

  1. Begin by applying Elevated Glow Highlighter - a couple of small dots of the product directly on to clean skin after moisturising for a subtle lifting, tightening and smoothing effect. Blend and smooth a thin layer into skin using either fingers or a brush.
  2. Next apply Seamless Skin Foundation starting with one pump, work from the centre of the face, applying The Foundation with the Seamless Blend Brush No.7 build up in thin layers to your desired level of coverage.
  3. Using Seamless Blend Brush No.7, apply your usual concealer under eyes and for any further coverage. (I used Estee Lauder Double Wear Radiance Concealer and No.8 Brush to buff the concealer out, for a seamless finish).
  4. Using the same No.1 brush, go back to your preferred shade of Lisa Eldridge Elevated Glow Highlighter and apply again to the high points of the face for extra glow.
  5. Time for some makeup mixology! Take your preferred True Velvet Lip Colour and mix with a tiny amount of your Elevated Glow Highlighter to create a luminous blush. Apply to the apples of cheeks with Brush No.1. and blend away any edges.
  6. Apply powder with Seamless Blend Brush No.9 to take away any unwanted shine (I used Chanel Poudre Universelle Natural Finish Loose Powder).
  7. Next on to the liner. Starting in the centre of the lash line apply liner as close as possible to the lash roots and angle upwards and outwards at the outer edge of the eye to create a small kitten flick. Fill in at the inner corner of the lash line and then spend time perfecting the liner overall. Looking straight ahead into a mirror.
  8. For more eye definition apply a taupe, brown or grey neutral (I used Vega Eyeshadow Palette for light to medium skin tones and Cinnabar Eye Palette on Deep skintones) using Brush No.15, buff and build along the socket line for depth.
  9. Apply plenty of black mascara to both the upper and lower lashes, building the layers to your desired thickness and length (I used Lancome Lash Idole Mascara).
  10. For brows apply pencil to create a vintage 1950’s shape by adding a little lift and definition to the high point of the brow before evenly coating brows with brow gel to hold in place.
  11. To create the perfect red lip…sketch out your desired lip shape with Ribbon Enhance and Define lip pencil before shading in, for a long-lasting base stain that won’t budge.
  12. Apply a layer of Velvet Ribbon over the whole lip. To further tweak shape go back in with lip pencil to make any adjustments.
  13. Finish with a glow-giving spray of Lisa Eldridge Skin and Makeup Enhancing Mist to settle and synergise your makeup.
