Red Carpet - Joely Richardson
On Tuesday night I made up the stunningly beautiful Joely Richardson for the premier of her new film, 'Anonymous', which was being shown in London as part of the BFI London Film Festival. Anonymous looks like a really interesting film, which questions the authenticity of the work of William Shakespeare and asks whether it was actually written by the Elizabethan aristocrat and 17th Earl of Oxford, Edward de Vere, who is played by Rhys Ifans. Joely plays the part of a young Queen Elizabeth 1, a role which she shares with her mother Vanessa Redgrave who stars as the older Elizabeth, so it was a really special film for her.
Joely looks absolutely incredible – her skin (not to mention figure!) is amazing and she has such a great face to make up. I’ve worked with her a number of times now and she’s also super-lovely and great fun. As you can see she chose to wear this beautiful black lace Marchesa gown which was perfect for the red carpet. Her fabulous blonde Hollywood waves were the work of super stylist Adam Reed who does lots of A-listers for the red carpet (You’ve probably seen his handiwork many times on Diane Kruger) and the end result was super-glamorous yet subtly sexy. Adam and I work together a lot and always have a good time.
I decided to keep her make-up fairly simple and glamorous, with fresh faced, dewy foundation, rosy cheeks, groomed brows and a neutral lip. I added drama around the eyes (it was a premier after all!) using Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombre in Mirifique, a stunning black, creamy, almost mousse-like shadow which is shot through with silver sparkles. These shadows are really easy to use, you simply smudge all over lids with fingers for a quick and easy but super-effective smoky eye.
I think this look is perfect for all the Christmas parties that will be coming up soon – it’s evening without being overdone and suits almost everyone.
I’d love to know what you think of the finished look!
